BFPI Methodology
The Basalt Flour Price Index (BFPI) is a monthly indicator that summarises publicly observable retail prices per kilogram for finely milled basalt flour in European markets.
1) Product categories tracked
BFPI uses three broad retail categories to reflect how basalt flour is typically sold:
- Bulk basalt flour — 20–25 kg agricultural sacks
- Standard consumer products — 6–19 kg garden / DIY formats
- Premium micronised products — 1–5 kg fine or micro-milled basalt
2) Monthly data collection
For each month, representative prices are recorded from a consistent selection of European retailers and online platforms. All observed prices are normalised into €/kg (by dividing the listed price by the package weight) to ensure comparability across different formats.
3) Index calculation
BFPI is calculated monthly as the average €/kg retail price of basalt flour observed across a fixed basket of European sellers. Prices are normalised to €/kg and grouped into bulk, standard consumer, and premium micronised categories. BFPI is computed as the weighted average of these category values (default weights: 50% bulk, 30% standard, 20% premium).
Important: The Basalt Flour Price Index (BFPI) is a descriptive market indicator. It is not linked to the value, price or performance of the Flour Yield Token (FYT) and must not be interpreted as financial advice or a valuation benchmark for any token or security.

Why basalt flour prices differ
- Micron size: finer, micronised basalt generally costs more.
- Purity & mineral composition: screened or lab-checked products command a premium.
- Packaging size: small bags have a higher price per kg than bulk sacks.
- Shipping & logistics: basalt is heavy; distance and delivery method matter.
- Brand positioning: organic, permaculture or premium climate brands tend to sit at the upper end of the range.
Illustrative price bands:
- Bulk agricultural sacks: approx. €0.4 – €2.5/kg
- Standard consumer products: approx. €2 – €5/kg
- Premium products: approx. €6 – €16/kg
In later iterations, this column can host a simple chart showing how these bands evolve over time.
